Labor Day Weekend 2002

The noise you hear, the one that sounds like a “chew toy",
is Squeaky; the neighbor’s little goat. She was found wandering the streets of Colfax and lost her voice while calling for her herd.

Prunella is whimpering ’cause the goats are paying no attention to her what-so-ever. In fact, if they were together, the goats would probably kick some doggie “butt”!

How goofy can this kid be... I hope he never grows out of it!

Preparing to conquer the mighty Bear. Bear River,
that is. The flow was awful low... Sore rear-ends
and a bumpy ride for all. We agreed: The Milk Ranch
to Dog Bar leg was superb; the Dog Bar to Peaceful
Valley section was PAINFUL! Pictured is Clint Bo Bob
and Billy Joe Craig. Granny Nat, Cathy Joe Sue, Sissy
Lou Sue, and our indefatigable crewman, Truck Drivin’
Dick, not available for photo.

Janaé, Craig & Mandy look at something Clint caught.

Does Pokey have NO dignity?

About half-way; Granite Bay... Started at Rattlesnake Bar. We actually toyed with starting at the the Auburn Dam overlook. Would’ve been 30 miles instead of 20.
Glad we decided to be sensible (for once!)

A welcome watering-hole. I wish they served beer!
(and Vicodin)

Cathy, Nat, Willie, and Mu arrive in the ‘burbs...
...just before dark, too!
Richard has grain & a place for the boys to rest.
The Stephens family have hot burgers
& icy cold Coronas for the gals!

Pufy. He reminds me more & more of Henry Fonda
in "On Golden Pond” every time I see him.
